Apple’s iPhone platform quickly went from “new kid on the block” to the beheomouth of the mobile smartphone market when it was released. Over the past two years, however, the Android platform has risen to rival the iPhone, and may well soon surpass it.
AdMob’s February 2010 traffic survey reveals some surprising trends in the marketplace. While all platforms have experienced significant growth, Android has continued to gain against iPhone OS, almost equaling iPhone traffic in February. Furthermore, in non-US markets, where the iPhone is not dominant, Android has grown to be one of the heaviest players. This is part of the continuing trend of android becoming the premier mobile platform.
