Leading adult entertainment news media organization XBIZ has teamed up with Saguaro Digital to release the company’s official Android news app, XBIZ News, delivering up-to-the-minute coverage of the adult industry to Android users around the world through the MiKandi store.

SEATTLE — Leading adult entertainment news media organization XBIZ has teamed up with Saguaro Digital to release the company’s official Android news app, XBIZ News, delivering up-to-the-minute coverage of the adult industry to Android users around the world through the MiKandi store.

Those visiting XBIZ.com from an Android device will be prompted to download and install the native application. Upon opening the application, users are asked to set their settings, which include news topic categories, automatic updates and update frequency. Based on users’ preference settings, updates are pushed to their device throughout the day. Using the application will provide XBIZ users with quick and convenient access on their Android devices of the mobile version of XBIZ.

“We’re pleased to offer yet another unique channel to distribute our industry-leading editorial content,” XBIZ President and Publisher Alec Helmy said. “Native apps have a stronger appeal than web apps, which is why we decided to partner up with Saguaro and MiKandi on this special project. We’re confident that our Android user base will find this to be a very essential app.”

The application was designed and developed by Saguaro Digital, a prominent adult industry application development firm. The firm has developed a variety of adult applications, including Wasteland’s Shake and Bake, Benny Morecock’s Shake and Wank, and The Ultimate Strip Club List.

“Working with XBIZ.com, we’re pleased to provide an application allowing XBIZ users greater ease of access and the ability to stay connected while on the go in the MiKandi store,” Saguaro Digital spokesman Sheridan Whiteside said. “This application continues Saguaro Digital’s tradition of connecting end users with content in unique and innovative ways.”

MiKandi co-founder Jennifer McEwen adds, “Looking at the latest comScore data, Android is on track to become the leading smartphone OS in one year, which is great for the adult industry as it’s the only OS that allows adult brands to participate without censorship. The release of the official XBIZ News app in our market validates our long-standing belief that the native capabilities on an Android phone lead to more interesting opportunities for application development and differentiation over a website.”

The application is available in MiKandi, the world’s first app store for adults. XBIZ.com marks the first native News and Reference application for the app store.

Saguaro Digital and the ASACP are please to release the "Restricted to Adults" wordpress plugin.

Los Angeles, California
Tucson, Arizona

As Internet Safely Month comes to a close, the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) is concluding the month by announcing the launch of the Restricted To Adults – RTA™ Website Label Plugin for WordPress.

WordPress is an open source content management system. It has many features including a plugin architecture and a templating system. Used by over 300 of the 10,000 biggest websites, WordPress is the most popular blogging software in use today. As of September 2009, it was being used by 202 million websites worldwide.

RTA was developed by ASACP out of a need for a free, easy to use, and internationally recognized label that designates content for adults only. The RTA label is a unique string of “meta data” which can be inserted into the computer code of any website. Parental filtering software recognizes the tag and prevents children from viewing adult content. Installing the RTA tag on a WordPress install can be somewhat complicated, so the Restricted to Adults plugin makes it one click — activate the plugin and your site is restricted to adults.

The RTA Plugin was developed by Saguaro Digital, a web and application development firm. Saguaro Digital developed the RTA Plugin pro-bono to make it easier for webmasters to correctly label their content using just “one click”/.

“No one wants a mandatory, complicated, and potentially expensive website labeling system. This is why ASACP created the Restricted To Adults – RTA Website Label. Whether for a traditional website, mobile content, or now WordPress; ASACP is dedicated to helping anyone who wants to quickly and simply label with RTA in order to prevent children from unknowingly reviewing age-restricted content,” stated ASACP CEO Joan Irvine. “We are so grateful to Saguaro Digital for volunteering to make the RTA WordPress plugin possible.”

The RTA WordPress Plugin is available at: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/restricted-to-adults/. Complete information about the RTA label is available at www.RTAlabel.org.

Saguaro Digital is a web and application development firm focused on the Adult Entertainment Industry. Saguaro Digital specializes in integrating complete solutions with existing products such as WordPress. For more information, erb@saguarodigital.com or http://saguarodigital.com.

Founded in 1996, ASACP is a non-profit organization dedicated to online child protection. ASACP comprises of two separate corporate entities, the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection and the ASACP Foundation. The Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) is a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization. ASACP manages a membership program that provides resources to companies in order to help them protect children online. The ASACP Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The ASACP Foundation battles child pornography through its CP Reporting Hotline and helps parents prevent children from viewing age-restricted material online with its Restricted To Adults – RTA Website Label. ASACP is the only association in the world that coordinates the adult entertainment industry’s efforts to protect children online. It has spent over 14 years creating progressive programs to protect children. ASACP’s relationship in assisting the adult industry’s child protection efforts is unparalleled. Companies and individuals interested in supporting ASACP may go to www.asacp.org for more information on how to get involved.

Apple’s iPhone platform quickly went from “new kid on the block” to the beheomouth of the mobile smartphone market when it was released. Over the past two years, however, the Android platform has risen to rival the iPhone, and may well soon surpass it.

AdMob’s February 2010 traffic survey reveals some surprising trends in the marketplace. While all platforms have experienced significant growth, Android has continued to gain against iPhone OS, almost equaling iPhone traffic in February. Furthermore, in non-US markets, where the iPhone is not dominant, Android has grown to be one of the heaviest players. This is part of the continuing trend of android becoming the premier mobile platform.

Common concerns about android surround the issue of platform fragmentation — different vendors and devices each supporting their own, incompatible subset of the Android platform. In comparison, the iPhone seems a straightforward platform with consistent (closed) features. Recent news from Google, however, promises to help bring the android platform back together.

According to Engadget, Google will be concentrating on making more of the system components easily updated. Most importantly, the really useful features — the mid level APIs which control input, screen, interaction, etc — will also be easily updated, which means that there should be far fewer users lagging one or more generations behind:

Notice that we said apps and components, meaning that some core elements of Android — input methods, for instance — should get this treatment. This way, just because Google rolls out an awesome new browser doesn’t mean you need to wait for HTC, Samsung, or whomever made your phone to roll it into a firmware update, and for your carrier to approve it — almost all of the juicy user-facing stuff will happen through the Market.

Moreover, Android has finally reached a stable, useful base. Not that 1.5 and 1.6 weren’t good systems, but many features were still transient. Thus, programming to include support for some of the “new” features requires fairly complex code to check for available options. With core operating system features completed, it will be much easier to target applications to particular features without worrying exactly what version a device is running:

By the time we get to [the next version], the underlying platform — and the API that devs need to target — will be reaching legitimate maturity for the first time, which means we should have far fewer tasty treat-themed code names to worry about over the course of an average year. We like awesome new software as much as the next guy, but Google’s been moving so fast lately that they’ve created a near constant culture of obsolescence anxiety among the hardcore user base — and in turn, that leads to paralysis at the sales counter.

What this means from the standpoint of software development is that much less time will be spent developing basic application features, and more time can be spent working on features and content. As our clients know, some of our infrastructure has undergone 3 revisions in the past year, to keep up with the change from Android 1.1 to 1.5/1.6 to 2.0/2.1. As the Android platform settles down, more stable infrastructure will build up around it, allowing for much simple application deployment. Best of all, several manufacturers (including htc, Samsung and Motorola) have committed to getting the majority of devices onto the 2.0+ versions of Android.

But what about iPhone? In contrast to Android isn’t the iPhone platform positively simple? Not really. With the various iPhone (3(G(S))) and iTouch, and now several variants of the iPad coming out, there are over a dozen different devices to target. Furthermore, Apple is working on yet Another version of the iPhone, which will provide another set of mostly compatible, but still need some work features to worry about. And finally, Apple prefers Burkas to Bras, thus preventing any meaningful adult apps on the iThings.

Via Engadget

Short URLs (those little links to bit.ly or is.gd) are extremely convenient. But, they’re not entirely trustworthy; when you see a short URL, you have no idea where you’ll end up. To solve this problem, Saguaro Digital is pleased to introduce Sagua.ro, our very own short URL, which always ends up on the SaguroDigital.com website.

While short URLs have become the norm on sites like twitter, people are often wary of clicking them, as there is not guarantee where a particular short URL might end up. While many are legitimate, some rickroll the user to all sorts of unexpected content. Furthermore, using third party shortening services dilutes name recognition.

To address these shortcomings, Saguaro Digital has developed our own URL shortening service. Whenever you visit a URL beginning in http://sagua.ro, you have the guarantee that you’ll end up on the Saguaro Digital website.

Try it out, http://sagua.ro/p1q is the short URL for this page.

Please contact us if you’re interested in a URL shortening service for you own site.

Recent developments in the labyrinth that is Apple’s approval process underscore the many reasons why the iTunes store should be “dropped like its hot”. Apple’s byzantine process coupled with regular reversals of opinion and a complete disregard for their app providers make doing business in the iTunes store akin to doing business in the third world.

MiKandi highlighted the issue today in response to Apple deciding to pull all “overtly sexual” content from the app store. The moral of the story? Don’t think that just because you can sneak an app through that you’re home free. There’s nothing preventing Apple from deciding that they just don’t like your app and pulling it.

The bottom line is that until Apple articulates a clear policy for adult content and backs it up with guarantees, there’s no excuse to release in the iTunes store.
